What's new this week

  1. Peer-to-peer reviews end for Traditional Medicaid prior authorization. Scheduling ended Oct 31; from Nov 1, denials go to administrative review and appeal only. Update your staff workflow. BT2026161
  2. A complete functional behavior assessment is required for every behavior-plan target, effective Oct 29. At least one function-based indirect assessment, graphed with the original responses, plus ABC data and a hypothesized function. BT2026162
  3. "Statement of need" and "referral" now mean the same thing. Required at start if the diagnostic evaluation is over a year old, at reauthorization when it turns a year old, and after a 6-month gap. A psychologist (HSPP), physician, APRN or PA can write it; a BCBA can't. BT2026160
  4. Naps: age-appropriate nap time must be in the treatment plan. BT2026159
  5. Caregiver coaching: request 12โ€“18 hours per 6-month authorization; document barriers if you request fewer. BT2026136
